The Election Commission of India has barred cricketer-turned-politician Navjot Singh Sidhu from campaigning for 72 hours, Hindustan Times reported.

He was barred from campaigning over his alleged communal remarks during an election rally in Bihar.

In an election rally on April 16, the former cricketer had asked Bihar’s Muslim voters to vote against Indian PM Narendra Modi and defeat him.

Sidhu was campaigning in support of veteran Congress leader Tariq Anwar in Bihar.
