Pakistan’s first female MMA fighter Anita Karim gets a warm welcome after One Warrior Series win

Anita Karim, the first female Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) in Pakista, got a hearty welcome at the Islamabad airport early Wednesday when she returned home triumphant after winning the One Warrior Series in Singapore.

Karim, who is from Hunza, defeated her Indonesian opponent Gita Suharsono in the One Warrior Series in Singapore on February 28.

She was welcomed with flowers and a jubilant dance at the Islamabad International Airport.

Her opponent was thrashed through her south-paw strike. Her move led to her getting declared the winner by all three judges.

On March 9, she posted about her win on Facebook. Her post was to thank her family and supporters. “It was a long journey with lots of ups and downs but with my family by my side, I knew I won’t ever give up!”

Karim is the only international female mixed martial arts fighter in Pakistan. She started practising Taekwondo at an early age in Hunza with her brothers.

She also bagged two gold medals last year in the Pakistan Grappling Challenge.
