Chief selector of the Pakistan cricket team Mohammad Wasim said the 20-member group for an upcoming two-match Test series against South Africa will be announced on January 15 in Karachi.
The Proteas are touring the country for the first time in 14 years.
“Initially, a 20-member group will be announce after which a final squad of 16 players will be announced after consultation with the team management and the selection committee,” Wasim said on Wednesday. “We will also consult head coach Misbah-ul-Haq and regular Babar Azam.”

He went on to say that the players’ performance on the bilateral tour of New Zealand and in the domestic competitions has been taken into consideration.
South Africa’s tour of Pakistan begins with a two-match Test series. The opening game will be played in Karachi on January 26 in Karachi. The two sides will then head to Rawalpindi for the second game on February 4.
